Keep your outdoor landscape lighting shining bright and well maintained all year long with these tips from our service technicians.
1. Adjust Fixtures
Over time, your outdoor landscape lighting fixtures may move out of alignment from: landscaping, mowing, wind and snow removal. You may notice when you are pulling up to your house at night that your lights seem different or moved than when they were first put it. Path lights may become crooked over time due to wet soil and the freezing and thawing of the ground.
We recommend that anytime you are having landscaping done that your outdoor landscape lighting fixtures are marked. You can either do this yourself by placing flags next to the fixtures our you can call us, and we will come out and mark them for you. Accidental damage is one of the top reasons we get called out for repairs.
2. Clean Fixtures Lenses
Dirt, leaves and other yard debris can pile up on your lenses. This pile up can dim or completely block the light coming out of your lights, particularly your spot lights. You can use a damp microfiber towel or any non-abrasive material to clean your lenses. It may take a little elbow grease to get your lenses clean. Due to our LED circuit bulbs emitting low heat you will want to brush the snow off of your lights after a big snow storm so that the snow will not block the light.
3. Check for Wire
When the ground freezes and thaws throughout these crazy Kentucky winters it can cause the wire to work its way up to the surface. Exposed wires need to be reburied to ensure the safety and efficiency of your outdoor landscape lighting system. If you notice that your wire is damaged, we recommend that you do not do this yourself. Give us a call and we will gladly come and safely repair the damaged wire for you.
4. Make sure your timer is programmed
With the bad thunderstorms and snow/ice storms that we endure in Kentucky it is likely that your power will go out from time to time. Lengthy power outages cause your timer to malfunction. You can either reset it yourself or call us and we will come out and reset if for you.
5. Replace Bulbs
If you still have an older outdoor landscape lighting system that uses LED bulbs you will need to examine your fixtures to see if any of them have gone out. If they are out, you will need to determine what type of LED bulbs you have. Once you do this you can go to the store and buy new ones. You will have to take you fixture out of the ground and take it apart to replace the bulb.
